David Asch is the executive director of the Penn Medicine Center for Health Care Innovation. He is professor at the Perelman School of Medicine and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, where he also directs the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholars Program. He practices internal medicine at the Philadelphia Veterans Affairs Medical Center, where he created the Center for Health Equity Research and Promotion and directed it from 2001 to 2012. From 1998 to 2012 he was executive director of the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics. His research is in the area of behavioral economics and health and aims to understand and improve how physicians and patients make medical choices. He is an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine and has received awards for teaching, mentorship, and research.
