Pireeni Sundaralingam

Behavior change scientist: Center for Humane Technology & principal at "Resilient Brains, Resilient Society - Consulting"; adjunct Associate Professor at California Institute of Integral Studies, San Francisco, California, United States; poet.

Pireeni Sundaralingam currently leads research for Silicon Valley's Center for Humane Technology, exploring the impact of the attention-extraction economy on human brains and society, and helped advise on "The Social Dilemma", the internationally acclaimed documentary about social media. As a behavior change scientist, she has served as science advisor to the Irish government's Minister of Art and Heritage; served in the creation of UNLive, the Museum of the United Nations; and has advised numerous climate change programs around the world, including the EU parliament, focusing on how to catalyze long-term behavioral change in different populations. Pireeni has held cognitive science research posts at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and University of California, Los Angeles, while her poetry has been published in over twenty journals and translated into five languages. Her literary awards include the N. California Book Award, the PEN Josephine Miles Book award while her fellowships in interdisciplinary thinking include awards from Berlin's Institut Für Raum Experimente and from the Leonardo International Society for the Arts, Sciences, and Technology. An associate professor in the Department of Writing, Consciousness and Creative Inquiry at the California Institute of Integral Studies, San Francisco, USA, she has just been appointed Poet Laureate at University College, Oxford, a "creativity catalyst" post allowing her to explore the connections between arts, sciences and social change.
