Ellen Strahlman, UK/USA
Ellen Strahlman is the senior vice president, Office of the CEO, and Global Head, Neglected Tropical Diseases for GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), where she leads the company's many programs and activities in global health, serves on the Board of Directors for ViiV Healthcare, plc., is the senior executive advisor to the CEO Future Strategy Group, Vaccines Public Health Program and PULSE Volunteer Program, and provides specific support to the CEO for medical matters relating to public health, access to medicine programs, corporate development activities and other external engagement efforts. Dr. Strahlman joined GSK in 2008 as the Chief Medical Officer. During her tenure, she had direct oversight for all global medical, regulatory, safety, compliance, quality, medical advocacy and access policy functions and personnel for GSK. Since 1991, Dr. Strahlman has held senior leadership roles in large, mid-size and biotech healthcare companies, leading R&D, medical, business development and commercial functions. As a spokesperson for industry and biotechnology, she has addressed issues of world health, corporate social responsibility in the pharmaceutical sector and working for vertically-integrated health care systems solutions. Prior to joining industry, throughout her career, and particularly now in her current role, she has been a champion and spokesperson for public health and world heath issues. Dr. Strahlman is a graduate of Harvard University and obtained an M.D. from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She has medical qualifications in general surgery and earned an M.Sc. in health sciences from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health as a Carnegie-Mellon Physician Public Health Fellow.
