Abhijit Ray

Managing Director, Unitis Capital, Bangalore

Abhijit Ray is the co-founder and managing director of Unitus Capital, where he has successfully raised capital totaling 900 million USD for multiple social enterprises in the healthcare, education, microfinance, micro-pension, technology and agriculture sector across Asia. He is also a board and advisory committee member for a couple of debt and equity funds. Mr. Ray started his career as a probationary officer at the State Bank of India in 1993. He moved to SIDBI thereafter and served there over a decade in various capacities, including appraisal and rating of MFIs, sanction of debt to more than 50 MFIs, assessment of capability building need and providing grant for capacity building of 35 MFIs, training entrepreneurs in setting up enterprises, developing industries in various clusters like honey, handicrafts, silk, jute, iron casting, weaving etc. and providing finance to SMEs / MFIs, in over 12 states of India. He co-authored many articles on microfinance in international journals. He has been a panelist in many conferences on microfinance and impact investing across Asia. He is also a mentor to young entrepreneurs at CIIE-Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad. Mr. Ray is an economics graduate of Kolkata University and a certified associate of the IIBF, Mumbai. He attended the strategic leadership program in microfinance at Harvard Business School in Boston, the School of Applied Microfinance in Mombasa, and a strategic planning for MFIs program in Cape Town.
