Stefan Brandt is the director of the Futurium in Berlin which will be opened in spring 2019. The interdisciplinary institution is at the same time a museum of the future, a future laboratory, a future forum, and a stage for the future. Between 2012 - 2017 he worked as managing director and board member of the Hamburger Kunsthalle. He was responsible for a comprehensive structural modernization project, the repositioning of the Kunsthalle in the digital sector, and the redesign of the brand and communication strategy, which was awarded several design prizes. He also developed interdisciplinary program formats at the Kunsthalle at the interface of visual and performing arts, including the 'Art Lab' with the Berlin Radialsystem V. In December 2017, Stefan Brandt was appointed honorary member of the board of the Liz Mohn Kultur- und Musikstiftung (Liz Mohn Culture and Music Foundation), which supports numerous cultural and educational initiatives throughout Germany. Stefan studied musicology, history and communication science at the Universities of Detmold/Paderborn and Basel. In 2004 he received his doctorate at the University of Basel with a thesis on operas by Baroque composer Nicola Porpora. During his studies and his doctorate, he was supported by the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes.
