Cindy Gu is currently pursuing her B.SSc in journalism and communication at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She is originally from Shanghai but is now on exchange at the University of Texas at Austin. Cindy's research interests include media, gender equality and LGBTQ community. She is currently researching the representation of LGBTQ asylum seekers in the U.S. media. This coming October, Cindy will attend The University of Cambridge to pursue her M.Phil. in multi-disciplinary gender studies. While in Hong Kong, Cindy conducted a group communication research designed to unearth the underlying reasons behind the policy of media censorship on online pornography in China and Indonesia based on Third Person Effect theory. She has also analyzed the WeChat articles of a popular public account targeting mainlanders living in Hong Kong. Cindy is passionate about learning as many languages, musical instruments, and cuisines as possible from each country on earth.
