Roberto Iunes

Senior Health Economist, Worl Bank Institute Health Systems Practice, Washington, DC

Roberto Iunes is a senior health economist at The World Bank Institute (WBI). Before joining the WBI, Mr. Iunes worked for over thirteen years at the Inter-American Development Bank in the design and implementation of health sector operations and at the Independent Office of Evaluation and Oversight. His academic experience includes working as faculty and researcher in economics of health and nutrition at the School of Public Health at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, and lecturer of political economy of Latin America at George Washington University's Elliot School of International Affairs. Dr. Iunes was also a Takemi fellow and research fellow in the Program of Health Care Financing, both at Harvard University. His public sector experience includes work with the Departments of Health of both the state and the city of Sao Paulo, as well as for the Ministry of Health in Brazil. Dr. Iunes has several articles published in academic journals and books. He served as faculty member at Session 500, Realizing the Right to Health: How can a rights-based approach best contribute to the strengthening, sustainability and equity of access to medicines and health systems?, in 2012.
