Anne Stiggelbout received her PhD in Medical Decision Making at Leiden University in 1995, having completed a MSc in Epidemiology in 1987 from Wageningen University in the Netherlands. Currently she is Professor at the Department of Medical Decision Making, Leiden University Medical Center, The Netherlands. Her chair is entitled Medical Decision Making: the Role of Patient Preferences. Her main research interests are utility and non-utility preference assessment, shared decision making, and ethical aspects of medical decision making. She has published extensively in these fields, and has received many grants and awards for her research, both national and international. She teaches aspects of doctor-patient decision-making and risk communication to medical students as well as in various continuing medical education programs in the Netherlands. She is currently president-elect of the Society for Medical Decision Making.
