Eva Nowotny

Former Ambassador of Austria to the US

Eva Nowotny is an Austrian career diplomat who served as her country's ambassador to France, the Court of St. James, and most recently to the United States of America. From 1999 to 2003 she was director general for European integration and economic affairs in the Austrian Foreign Ministry. From 1983 to 1992, she served as foreign policy adviser to the Austrian federal chancellor. Ambassador Nowotny's previous posts include six years at the Austrian Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, where she followed political and security affairs and was named vice president of the Special Political Committee of the 36th General Assembly, and three years at the Austrian Embassy in Cairo. Since then she assumed a variety of postings in international and Austrian institutions, including serving as president of the Austrian Commission for UNESCO (2009-2012) and on the Board of Directors of the Foreign Policy and United Nations Association of Austria. She holds a Ph.D. in modern history from the University of Vienna and now also is the Chair of her alma mater's Management Board. Ambassador Nowotny also served on Salzburg Global Seminar's Board of Directors and is a Fellow of various Salzburg Global Seminar sessions.
