Several of you have already heard from us regarding one or two of the many events being planned specifically for our Fellows in the coming year. But in case you've not yet, take a look at the variety of Fellowship events around the world that have now been posted on the Seminar's website. In early 2011 Fellows can join SGS activities in the USA, between June and October there will be several events for you in locations around Europe, and in November and December, we are planning to take the program to South Africa! Much of this is still in planning and we'd very much like to have your input and participation.

New Rules for Global Finance
|
(Mar 8-10) Austrian National Bank in Vienna: The recent financial crisis not only exposed many deficiencies in the financial sectors around the world, but threatened the very foundations of the global economy. Authorities in the US, Europe and Asia pledged to undertake a serious overhaul of their financial regulation systems and to cooperate better on the international level to ensure more effective supervision of cross-border operations and internationally active financial institutions. This session will inspect the implications of these reforms and analyze and compare the decisions that have been made, assessing from different perspectives how far old problems have been solved and/or potential new ones created.

Instrumental Value: The Transformative Power of Music
|
(Apr 2-6) Daniel Barenboim's West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, Gilbert Levine's Papal Concert to Commemorate the Shoah, and José Antonio Abreu's El Sistema music education project in Venezuela, are just some of the better-known examples of "music with a mission." Much can be learned from these and comparable efforts. It is the goal of this Salzburg session to bring together musicians, social change-makers, representatives of the philanthropic community, cultural policymakers, and scholars interested in the manifestations of music in all cultures to explore the transformative power of music and shed new light on ways to benefit from music's instrumental value.
