Biography:
Giuliano Amato is a professor of law at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy. He recently served as the minister of the interior in Romano Prodi’s government until April 2008. Professor Amato was the prime minister of Italy twice, first from 1992 to 1993 and then from 2000 to 2001. Between these periods, he served as the minister for institutional reforms and as the minister of finance, respectively, in Massimo D’Alema’s two consecutive governments. Professor Amato received a degree in law from the University of Pisa and a master’s degree in comparative law from Columbia University, New York, USA.
