Education
The Salzburg Global Seminar's Education programs are designed to engage higher education institutions, educators, and students in developing a greater sense of global awareness and a commitment to actively address pressing issues of global concern. Education programs are implemented in partnership with colleges and universities. In addition to focusing on the professional and personal development of students, faculty, and staff from these institutions, Education programs seek to increase institutional capacity of colleges and universities to develop, model, and disseminate a notion of what it means to be a global citizen. Currently, there are two primary Education programs. Since 2004, the International Study Program on Global Citizenship has become the largest, most systematic, and most comprehensive program on global citizenship education in the United States. Its focus is on institutional development and change with the goal of enabling colleges and universities to graduate students who are aware of their place in a globalizing world, have a sound understanding the challenges we are confronting, and are willing and capable to make a difference. The ISP offers a unique combination of a short-term & intense study abroad experience for students and weeklong workshops for faculty and administrators to develop tailored approaches of incorporating global citizenship education into the 'DNA' of their institutions. The Salzburg Academy on Media Global Change brings together for three weeks every summer top undergraduate and graduate students from around the world. Faculty and deans from more than a dozen different universities across the globe participate in the Academy, giving lectures and acting as mentors to small teams of students. Following each summer's session, the Academy's university and other partners collaborate in a range of shared projects focused on media's roles and responsibilities in the public consideration of global issues. Global Media Literacy and Freedom of Expression are at the core of the Academy's agenda.
