Sciana Lecture: The health and social care leadership challenge of the next 5 years

Online

17:30 to 19:00 CET

Overview

The COVID pandemic has tested health and care services to their limit over the past 20 months. It has exposed, and in some cases amplified, the pre-existing fragilities and inequalities within the system. The leadership challenge of the next 5 years is to set out a vision which accepts the current challenging reality whilst also setting out a brighter, more hopeful future; a vision that inspires and motivates the workforce and delivers the necessary changes.

In the annual Sciana lecture David Behan will set out how leaders can thrive as they rise to meet a series of challenges. Currently bottleneck include staff burnt out and/or exhaustion, serious disruptions to the provision of health and care services, and long waiting times for diagnostic tests, treatment and elective surgery which in turn place pressure on services which are continuing to treat people with COVID. Alongside these pressures there is uncertainty of the trajectory of the pandemic and other viruses over the winter months. Service transformation has been delayed by the pandemic. Despite this context, services are moving from recovery and reset and into service transformation.

This event is only open to Sciana Members.
